Polygrade has emerged from stealth with $6.3 million in funding to deploy AI agents into the manual, high-friction workflows of the warranty industry. For insurance professionals managing home warranties or equipment breakdown lines, this platform offers a way to automate triage, parts sourcing, and contractor payments without requiring a wholesale replacement of legacy core systems.

What was announced

Polygrade launched its AI-native claims management platform alongside a $6.3 million funding round led by Construct Capital, with participation from American Family Ventures and Nine Four Ventures. The platform is specifically designed to address the "physical" complexities of warranty claims, moving beyond simple ticket tracking to active claim resolution. By utilizing specialized AI agents, Polygrade automates five critical stages of the claim lifecycle: first notice of loss (FNOL), pre-dispatch triage, authorization, parts procurement, and contractor payment.

The system is designed to sit above a warranty company’s existing technology stack, creating a proprietary intelligence graph that connects policies, claims, decisions, and outcomes. This allows the platform to turn raw data into automated actions, such as determining the cause of a failure before a contractor is dispatched or finding OEM replacement parts at competitive prices. Polygrade is already in production with enterprise partners, including Fidelity National Home Warranty and Cinch Home Services. The platform also integrates with a network of suppliers such as Encompass, UED, Sibi, and Marcone to streamline parts availability and pricing.

The company plans to use the new capital to expand its Forward Deployed Engineering, go-to-market, and partner enablement teams. While the current focus is on the home warranty sector, Polygrade has stated intentions to expand its footprint into extended warranty, OEM warranty, and equipment breakdown insurance markets. Early deployments have already demonstrated the ability to identify unnecessary service visits and procurement overspend, directly impacting claim severity and operational costs.

"Warranty is a massive industry that never really got its modern software moment. The technology that exists is largely designed to keep track of a claim and move it through a workflow. We built Polygrade to understand the claim and act on it. If AI can help determine what's wrong before a contractor gets in a truck, find the right part at the right price, make an authorization decision and get a contractor paid faster, the economics of the entire claim change."

David Steckel, Founder and CEO of Polygrade.

The companies involved

Polygrade was founded by a team of veterans from the home services and warranty sectors. Founder and CEO David Steckel previously founded Setter, a home management platform backed by Sequoia Capital that was later acquired by Thumbtack. Following the acquisition, Steckel served as Chief Product Officer at Sears Home Services, where he focused on modernizing warranty integrations. He is joined by co-founder and CTO Eui Chung, who spent nearly 30 years at Sears and Transformco leading AI transformation initiatives, and Kaustubh Vongole, co-founder and Head of Product, who previously led fulfillment products and AI strategy.

The funding round was led by Construct Capital, a venture firm co-founded by Managing Partner Rachel Holt that focuses on transforming foundational industries through technology. American Family Ventures, the venture capital arm associated with American Family Insurance, also participated, signaling interest from the broader insurance carrier ecosystem. Key partners include Encompass, led by President and CEO Robert Coolidge, which serves as a major supplier of OEM replacement parts to the warranty industry. Other enterprise users include Fidelity National Home Warranty, where EVP and COO Jason Manns oversees the integration of Polygrade’s AI into existing claims workflows.

What FF News has reported before

The emergence of Polygrade follows a broader trend of AI-native platforms entering the insurance claims and risk infrastructure space, a shift that FF News has tracked closely. In September 2025, we reported on how Elysian Raises $6M Seed Round to Redefine Insurance Claims Services with AI-Native Platform, highlighting the industry's move toward specialized intelligence layers that handle complex claim decisions. Furthermore, the focus on automating the financial and risk aspects of these service-heavy sectors was mirrored in our coverage of GrailPay, which Secures $10.5M Series A to Revolutionize Risk Infrastructure for Agentic and Instant Payments. These developments suggest a growing appetite among investors for "agentic" AI that can execute physical-world tasks like payments and procurement rather than just processing digital documents.

What this means from an insurtech perspective

From an insurtech perspective, Polygrade’s entry highlights a critical shift from "workflow" to "execution" in claims technology. For years, carriers and MGAs have relied on legacy core systems that act as passive repositories of data. By positioning itself as an intelligence layer that sits on top of these systems, Polygrade avoids the "rip-and-replace" friction that often stalls digital transformation. This is particularly significant for loss ratios in the home warranty and equipment breakdown sectors, where "truck rolls"—dispatching a contractor—represent a major cost. If AI can accurately triage a claim at FNOL and prevent unnecessary dispatches, the impact on claim severity is immediate. This puts pressure on incumbent claims management vendors to move beyond simple routing and toward autonomous decision-making to remain relevant in a market increasingly focused on "agentic" efficiency.
