Travel Insured International (TII) has integrated its trip protection plans into Tern’s AI-powered platform, used by over 16,000 travel advisors. For insurance carriers and MGAs, this move highlights the accelerating shift toward embedded distribution, removing manual data entry hurdles and placing coverage directly into the agent's existing workflow to capture premium at the point of sale.

What was announced

Travel Insured International, a subsidiary of Crum & Forster’s Accident & Health Division, has formed a partnership with Tern to embed travel insurance products directly into the Tern operating system. This integration allows travel advisors and agencies to generate quotes and sell coverage within the same client-facing itineraries they use to manage bookings. By leveraging the client and trip data already stored within the Tern platform, the system enables advisors to produce a TII quote in a few clicks, removing the need to toggle between different software or manually re-enter traveler information.

The collaboration targets a significant segment of the travel market. According to the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA), U.S. travel agencies sold nearly $130 billion in travel in 2025, with approximately 25% of all travel now booked through the agency channel. Tern currently supports more than 16,000 advisors who collectively manage $2 billion in annual trip volume. The partnership aims to streamline the sales process, making insurance a natural component of the booking journey rather than a secondary, administrative task that adds friction to the advisor's workflow.

"Travel advisors and agencies are at the heart of our business at Travel Insured International, and we're committed to making it easier for them to help protect their consumer clients. This partnership with Tern brings that commitment to life,"

Barbra Taylor, President of TII

The companies involved

Travel Insured International (TII) is a prominent provider of trip protection in the United States. The company operates as part of the Accident & Health Division of Crum & Forster (C&F), a national commercial property and casualty group with a history spanning over 200 years. C&F provides the underwriting expertise and financial backing for TII’s travel insurance programs, focusing on flexible distribution strategies that align with modern customer experience goals.

Tern, accessible at ternitup.com, provides an AI-powered operating system specifically designed for travel advisors and agencies. The platform acts as a central hub for managing client details, trip itineraries, and business growth. By hosting $2 billion in managed trips, Tern has positioned itself as a critical infrastructure provider for the agency channel. The company focuses on reducing administrative friction for travel professionals through technology that supports their existing business processes rather than adding complexity to their daily operations.

What this means from an insurtech perspective

This partnership is a clear example of the industry moving beyond simple B2C embedded insurance toward more sophisticated B2B2C integrations. For incumbent travel insurers, the pressure is mounting to move away from standalone agent portals, which are increasingly viewed as a "time tax" on distribution partners. By eliminating the 10-20 minutes of manual data entry typically required to offer a policy, TII is likely to see a significant impact on attachment rates and customer trust. From an underwriting perspective, this deep integration ensures that the data used for quoting is consistent with the primary booking, potentially reducing errors and improving the accuracy of the risk profile at the point of sale. For brokers and MGAs, the message is clear: distribution dominance now depends on how well insurance products can disappear into the tools the intermediary already uses.
