Matter Intelligence Unveils NASA-Derived Space Sensing for Property Insurers at ITC Vegas

Matter Intelligence will unveil a new space-based property intelligence solution for insurers at ITC Vegas 2026. Following a successful proof-of-concept with a top five US P&C insurer, the solution combines space-based spectral sensing with AI to examine the physical condition of residential roofs at scale. The solution is available now for POC, with go live with insurers in Q1 2027.
ITC Vegas 2026 is built around the theme “The Horizon of Possibilities: Predict, Prepare, Progress.” For Matter Intelligence, that horizon is increasingly visible in the physical state of the assets insurers cover. Its technology helps insurers predict emerging risk, prepare with a more accurate view of property condition, and progress toward better-informed decisions across underwriting, portfolio management, and claims.
Property insurers typically rely on information such as satellite imagery, property age, and self-reported data to assess a property. While these sources can reveal a great deal, they do not always show how the asset itself is changing. Matter Intelligence adds another layer of insight by detecting signs of deterioration that conventional imagery can miss, giving insurers a more granular view of risk before it becomes a claim.
“The problem isn’t that insurers lack data. It’s that much of that data tells them about a property rather than showing them its actual physical condition,” said Vishnu Sridhar, Co-founder and CEO of Matter Intelligence.
“We’re giving insurers a way to bring the condition of the asset itself into their risk decisions.”
Matter Intelligence was founded by scientists who previously developed advanced sensor technology for NASA/JPL and US defence programmes. It has adapted spectral sensing, which captures information beyond what the human eye and conventional cameras can see, to the property insurance market.
The technology provides property-level intelligence across three critical stages of the insurance lifecycle:
- Underwriting: assess roof condition at the point of quote, supporting more informed decisions and reducing reliance on physical inspections and referrals
- Portfolio management: identify concentrations of deterioration across a portfolio and monitor changes in property condition over time
- Claims: compare pre- and post-event condition to help distinguish new damage from pre-existing deterioration, supporting claims triage and fraud investigation
“We’re not trying to replace the models insurers already use,” said Sridhar. “We’re giving them a better view of the physical world those models are trying to predict. If you can see deterioration earlier and measure property condition consistently at scale, you can prepare sooner and make better-informed decisions from underwriting to claims.”
The potential applications extend beyond roofing. Matter Intelligence’s technology can also complement existing flood and wildfire models by adding information about the physical characteristics and condition of insured properties.
Matter Intelligence has adapted advanced sensing technology developed for applications beyond insurance. Combined with AI that can interpret those signals at scale, it gives insurers a more current and objective view of the assets on their books.
