Checkr Launches AI-Powered Insurance Solution to Streamline Underwriting and Combat Fraud
By Lauren Towner · 22 September 2026

Checkr, an AI-powered verification platform for high-stakes decisions, today announced the launch of its insurance offering, giving auto, life, and home insurance carriers a new way to access the information they need to evaluate applicants and price risk.
As consumers increasingly shop around for insurance, they are obtaining an average of 3.5 quotes before purchasing a policy, the highest level on record, according to J.D. Power’s 2026 Insurance Shopping Study. Additionally, nearly half (48%) of new auto insurance policies are purchased digitally, up from 36% five years ago. This shift is creating new challenges for carriers, who must evaluate more applicants, faster, with less verified information, all before knowing who will ultimately become a policyholder.
To manage verification costs, carriers are left choosing between two imperfect options. They can run comprehensive checks up front, pricing accurately but spending on applicants who never convert. Alternatively, they can quote instantly on self-reported information, then revise the price once verified data comes in, potentially sending shoppers elsewhere or causing them to walk away before purchasing. Ultimately, what carriers need is data fast enough to use for the first quote and accurate enough to inform pricing and risk segmentation.
Checkr’s insurance offering gives carriers direct access to identity, criminal, public record, and driving data earlier in the underwriting process. The data comes from more than 2,400 government sources, is refreshed daily and classified into over 250 offense types, giving pricing and analytics teams a clearer, more structured view of applicants.
Built for Better Insurance Decisions
Checkr’s insurance solution gives carriers:
- Broader coverage: More than 260 million profiles covering 96% of U.S. adults, with up to 20% more driving, criminal, and public records than legacy providers.
- Fresher records: Thousands of proprietary data ingestion pipelines refreshed daily from authoritative sources, including government agencies and credit data.
- More detailed records: Over 250 offense classifications that give carriers more detail than a simple hit-or-no-hit result.
- Higher-confidence matching: Technology that helps connect applicants to the right records and reduces manual review.
- Outcome-based pricing: Carriers pay when an applicant becomes a policyholder, rather than per transaction.
"Insurance is a high-stakes business, but too often the information carriers rely on is one step removed from the source," said Michele Casertano, general manager of Insurance & Trust at Checkr. "Checkr’s insurance solution changes that. By giving carriers direct access to fresher, more comprehensive records, we’re helping them move faster, make better-informed decisions, and give customers greater confidence."
