Vertafore has launched two AI-driven agents, Velocity Policy Intake and Velocity Policy Check, to automate the manual extraction and verification of policy data for independent agencies. By reducing administrative friction within the agency management system, these tools allow brokers to focus on risk consulting rather than repetitive data entry and error-prone manual comparisons.

What was announced

Vertafore has moved its Velocity Policy Intake Agent and Velocity Policy Check Agent into general availability. These tools are designed to address two specific bottlenecks in the insurance policy lifecycle: the ingestion of diverse document types into a system of record and the subsequent verification of issued policies against intended coverage. The agents are part of Vertafore’s broader "Agentic Agency" strategy, which seeks to embed artificial intelligence across sales, submissions, servicing, and accounting workflows.

The Velocity Policy Intake Agent automates the extraction of data from various formats, including PDFs, declarations pages, binders, quotes, applications, schedules, and spreadsheets. This is particularly relevant for policies that do not support carrier download, requiring agency staff to manually interpret and enter details. The AI identifies new, changed, or conflicting information, allowing users to review and approve updates before the agent automatically updates the management system. During early adopter testing, this tool reduced the time required to process typical Commercial Property and General Liability package policies by up to 87%.

The Velocity Policy Check Agent focuses on the post-issuance phase, comparing the final policy document against the management system data and original source documents. It highlights discrepancies and suggests corrections for user approval. Early testing indicates a time reduction of up to 90% per line of business. Currently, Policy Intake is available in Vertafore’s AgencyOne with AMS360 and is in early access for Sagitta, while Policy Check is available in AMS360.

The companies involved

Vertafore is a major provider of insurance distribution technology, serving the independent agency channel, MGAs, and carriers. The company is a subsidiary of Roper Technologies, a constituent of the S&P 500 that acquired Vertafore in 2020. Vertafore’s product suite is centered around its agency management systems (AMS), including AMS360 and Sagitta, which function as the primary operating environments for thousands of insurance professionals across North America.

The company has increasingly focused on "Distribution Velocity," a strategic framework aimed at removing technical debt and manual hurdles from the insurance value chain. By positioning its AMS as a "system of record," Vertafore competes in a market where data accuracy is paramount for underwriting integrity and Errors and Omissions (E&O) mitigation. Its scale in the market allows it to set benchmarks for how AI is integrated into legacy insurance workflows, particularly in the commercial lines sector where document complexity remains a significant barrier to automation.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has tracked Vertafore’s aggressive expansion into AI-driven automation over the past year. In September 2024, the publication covered how the company unveiled Velocity AI Agents to boost MGA underwriting capacity, followed closely by the launch of a Velocity AI Agent designed to slash document research time by 90%. More recently, Vertafore secured double industry honors for its leadership in AI innovation and insurance standards. Beyond its core AI platform, FF News also reported on Vertafore’s ecosystem expansion, such as when reThought Flood partnered with Vertafore to scale private flood insurance distribution through its network.

What this means from an insurtech perspective

This announcement highlights a critical shift from "systems of engagement" to "systems of intelligence" within the brokerage sector. For years, the industry has struggled with the "data gap" created when carrier downloads are unavailable, forcing agencies to rely on manual entry that is prone to error. By automating policy checking, Vertafore is directly addressing E&O risk—one of the most significant professional liabilities for brokers. This move puts pressure on incumbent management system vendors to move beyond basic record-keeping and provide active data validation. For carriers, this automation suggests that agencies will become more sensitive to data discrepancies, potentially leading to higher standards for document accuracy at the point of issuance.
