Press Release: KoverNow and AXA XL Launch Digital Insurance for Fine Art and Collectibles in Singapore | Featured Image by FF News

KoverNow has expanded its digital insurance platform to include fine art, wine, whisky, and collectibles, addressing a critical gap in the specialty market where high-value assets are often managed via analogue processes. Underwritten by AXA XL, the move allows Singapore-based collectors to secure instant, all-risk coverage for niche assets through a mobile-first interface.

What was announced

The expansion introduces four new categories to KoverNow’s existing digital ecosystem: fine art, wine, whisky, and collectibles. The art coverage is broad, encompassing paintings, sculptures, and antiques, while the collectibles category specifically targets the burgeoning market for professionally graded trading cards and film or sports memorabilia. By digitising the underwriting process, the platform removes the traditional friction associated with insuring high-value items, which often requires manual appraisal and lengthy documentation.

Collectors can access these products via the KoverNow app on iOS and Android. The policies are underwritten by AXA XL, providing global capacity and "all-risk" protection against loss, theft, and accidental damage worldwide. This development builds upon a strategic partnership established in January 2026, which initially focused on watches, jewellery, and handbags. The service is currently available to the Singapore market, with KoverNow planning to extend the same range of categories to collectors in Hong Kong. The platform aims to provide an end-to-end digital experience, allowing hobbyists to manage their entire portfolio of passions within a single application, reflecting the maturing nature of the collectibles market in the Asia-Pacific region.

"Collectors already buy and trade their collections digitally, from graded trading cards acquired on online marketplaces to art bought through the e-commerce platforms of auction houses," said Stephan Kaiser, CEO of KoverNow. "Insurance has been the one analogue step left in that process, standing between collectors and specialised protection for their passions. Extending our cover to now include art, wine, whisky and collectibles closes that gap and brings the whole collecting experience onto one app, making it easy for Singapore’s growing community of collectors."

The companies involved

AXA XL, the underwriting partner for this expansion, is the property and casualty and specialty risk division of AXA Group. The firm provides insurance and risk management solutions for mid-sized companies to large multinationals globally. In the context of this partnership, AXA XL leverages its specific expertise in the Fine Art & Specie sector to provide the necessary capacity for high-value personal assets. KoverNow operates as a digital insurance agency platform specifically designed for the luxury and collectible market. Based in Singapore, the firm (registered as KOVERNOW PTE. LTD.) focuses on removing the administrative hurdles of traditional insurance for hobbyists and serious collectors. By integrating with global carriers like AXA XL, KoverNow positions itself as a digital bridge between sophisticated underwriting capacity and a mobile-savvy consumer base that increasingly treats alternative assets—such as rare whiskies and trading cards—as serious investments requiring institutional-grade protection.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely tracked AXA XL’s recent strategic moves to modernise specialty and commercial underwriting. In October 2026, we reported on how AXA XL Partners with Gecko Risk to Revolutionize Commercial EV Fleet Underwriting, highlighting the carrier's appetite for data-driven risk assessment. The company also recently expanded its distribution footprint, as seen when AXA XL Launches Dedicated E&S Insurance Carrier to Empower Wholesale Brokers to better serve the US market. Furthermore, the carrier's focus on emerging technological risks was detailed in our coverage of the AXA XL and S-RM Reveal 5 Critical Priorities for Resilient AI Adoption report. These stories reflect a broader trend of AXA XL seeking specialised partnerships to refine its underwriting and distribution capabilities across diverse risk categories.

What this means from an insurtech perspective

This expansion signals a significant shift for the specialty insurance sector, where high-touch, manual underwriting has long been the standard. By automating the valuation and onboarding process for assets like fine art and rare whisky, KoverNow and AXA XL are challenging the traditional brokerage model for private client services. For carriers, the ability to provide instant "all-risk" quotes for niche collectibles represents a major leap in distribution efficiency. However, it also raises questions about how digital platforms will handle the complex claims and valuation disputes inherent in volatile markets like trading cards and spirits. Traditional MGAs and specialist brokers may find themselves under increasing pressure to digitise their own offerings or risk losing the next generation of digital-native collectors.
