Chubb Reports $2.84 Billion Net Income for Q3 2026 as Core Operating Earnings Hit Record $8.6 Billion YTD
By Lauren Towner · 21 October 2026

Chubb’s Q3 2026 results demonstrate the resilience of diversified underwriting and the significant impact of rising interest rates on investment income. For carriers and reinsurers, the record nine-month core operating income of $8.6 billion signals a robust pricing environment, while the divestment of USI Insurance Services to Aon highlights ongoing consolidation within the global brokerage landscape.
What was announced
Chubb reported a net income of $2.84 billion for the third quarter of 2026, translating to $7.30 per share. Core operating income reached $2.98 billion, or $7.66 per share. While quarterly earnings saw a slight 2% dip compared to 2025—attributed to exceptionally light catastrophe losses in the prior year—the nine-month performance set a record. For the first three quarters of 2026, net income stood at $8.02 billion, with core operating income rising 21% to $8.60 billion.
The company’s balance sheet showed growth, with book value per share increasing 5.1% since September 2025 to $191.43. Tangible book value per share rose 5.7% to $126.96. Investment performance was a significant driver of these results, with adjusted net investment income hitting a record $1.9 billion, bolstered by a large invested asset base and rising interest rates. On the underwriting side, the company emphasized its discipline across P&C, investment, and life income segments.
A major strategic move was also confirmed: Strategic Holdings, a partnership between Chubb and KKR, has agreed to sell its investment in USI Insurance Services to Aon. This transaction is expected to generate a realized gain of $460 million for Chubb on an initial investment of $740 million. The deal marks a significant exit for the partnership and a notable acquisition for Aon in the brokerage space.
"P&C underwriting, investment and life income results led to core operating earnings of $2.98 billion, or $7.66 per share. Due to particularly light CAT losses last year, earnings are down 2% and up 1% per share from 2025. For the first nine months of the year, which is a more meaningful perspective, core operating income is a record $8.6 billion, or $21.94 per share, up 21% and 24.5%, respectively, from the prior year,"

The companies involved
Chubb Limited is one of the world’s largest publicly traded property and casualty insurance companies, operating in 54 countries and territories. The company provides commercial and personal property and casualty insurance, personal accident and supplemental health insurance, reinsurance, and life insurance to a diverse group of clients. It is known for its underwriting discipline and global reach.
Aon, the purchaser of USI Insurance Services in this transaction, is a leading global professional services firm providing a broad range of risk, retirement, and health solutions. Its acquisition of USI further consolidates its position in the middle-market and specialty brokerage sectors.
KKR (Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. L.P.) is a global investment firm that manages multiple alternative asset classes, including private equity, energy, infrastructure, real estate, and credit. Its partnership with Chubb through Strategic Holdings reflects the ongoing intersection between private equity capital and the insurance value chain, particularly in the distribution and brokerage sectors where KKR has historically been an active investor.
What FF News has reported before
FF News has closely followed the strategic movements of Aon as it expands its global footprint and technical capabilities. Recently, the firm has focused on specialized risk facilities, including the report that Aon and EBRD Expand Ukraine War Risk Insurance Facility to €150 Million. The company has also been active in the ESG and climate space, as seen in the report Aon Unveils New Climate Resilience Framework for Nordic and European Corporations. Furthermore, Aon continues to bolster its leadership in life solutions and technology, recently noted when Aon Appoints Dr. Fabian Bohnert to Lead EMEA Life Solutions and AI Strategy. These moves highlight Aon's focus on integrating advanced analytics and specialized underwriting into its brokerage model.
What this means from an insurtech perspective
This announcement underscores the dominance of diversified carriers that can balance P&C underwriting with strong life and investment income. For the insurtech sector, the divestment of USI to Aon signals that the "big three" brokers are still hungry for scale, putting pressure on smaller, tech-led MGAs and independent brokers to differentiate through specialized data or superior customer experience. Chubb’s record investment income also highlights a shift: as interest rates remain a tailwind, the pressure on pure underwriting profit may temporarily ease, but the long-term winners will be those who use this capital to modernize legacy core systems and improve loss ratios through predictive analytics. The transaction also proves that private equity partnerships remain a viable vehicle for insurance asset appreciation.
