Slingshot Insurance Emerges from Stealth with $27M to Revolutionize Embedded Economy Infrastructure
By Lauren Towner · 23 October 2026

Slingshot Insurance has launched with $27 million in seed funding to solve the structural mismatch between legacy carrier systems and the high-volume, low-premium demands of embedded insurance. By providing AI-native infrastructure, the company enables MGAs and software platforms to deploy niche products at scale, addressing a segment projected to reach 20% of global P&C premiums.
What was announced
Slingshot Insurance emerged from stealth with a $27 million seed financing round co-led by Rally Ventures and Skyward Group. The round saw participation from several P&C industry veterans, including Jim Hays, who joins the company's board of directors. Co-founded by Ethan Genteman, former Chief Actuarial Officer at Palomar Holdings, the company targets the embedded insurance market, which currently accounts for roughly 3% of global P&C premiums but is forecasted to grow to nearly 20% over the next decade.
The platform is designed for industry vertical software platforms, MGAs, and insurance distributors. It focuses on niche, rapidly evolving sectors such as amateur sports, travel, and the gig- and independent-work economy. Slingshot’s AI-native infrastructure replaces traditional spreadsheets and disconnected legacy systems with a single integrated system. This setup uses APIs to connect with distribution platforms and capital providers, automating complex workflows to lower the cost of administering high-frequency, low-severity risks. Vertical Insure, an embedded insurance MGA serving over 750,000 customers with an average premium of $25, has already signed on as an early customer and design partner to accelerate its product deployment cycles.
"Traditional carrier infrastructure wasn't built for embedded insurance's risk and economic model. Embedded products tend to be higher-frequency, lower-severity risks, often with smaller premiums, while incumbent systems and operating models carry fixed costs designed for a much different market,"
Ethan Genteman, co-founder and CEO of Slingshot.
The companies involved
Slingshot Insurance is an AI-native insurance company specifically engineered for the embedded economy. It was co-founded by Rally Ventures, a venture capital firm that partners with entrepreneurs to build enterprise technology companies. Rally Ventures co-developed the Slingshot concept alongside CEO Ethan Genteman, identifying a gap in how the market handles small, checkout-level policies. Genteman brings significant actuarial experience to the venture from his previous role at Palomar Holdings.
Skyward Group, a co-leader in the seed round, is an established player in the specialty insurance space. The group has a history of supporting innovative risk solutions and has recently been active in expanding its reach into emerging sectors like autonomous vehicle insurance. The involvement of P&C veteran Jim Hays on Slingshot's board further anchors the startup within the traditional insurance establishment. These organizations are positioning themselves to capitalize on the shift toward verticalized insurance distribution, where coverage is integrated directly into the software platforms that businesses and consumers use daily, rather than being sold as a standalone financial product.

What this means from an insurtech perspective
The emergence of Slingshot highlights a critical friction point in the insurance value chain: the "legacy tax" on small-ticket items. For many carriers, the administrative overhead of a $25 premium often exceeds the potential profit, leaving MGAs stranded with innovative products but no viable capacity. By automating the actuarial and administrative heavy lifting, Slingshot puts pressure on incumbent fronting carriers and legacy core-system vendors who cannot match this unit-economic efficiency. This move suggests that the future of embedded insurance depends less on front-end UI and more on the radical modernization of back-end ledger and reconciliation systems to handle the sheer volume of micro-transactions profitably.
